How to make your bathroom smell like a spa – the easy way!
So the quickest and easiest way to get your bathroom smelling like an amazing spa is to buy the best spa scented products. Simple!

So before we move onto the DIY options, I’ll explain why I think these little gems are the best choices for that authentic spa smell.
Many products claim to smell spa-like, but not all make good on their promise!
The best products to make your bathroom smell like a spa are ones that:
- Really do smell like a spa – obviously!
- Have a smell that lasts ages – you want your bathroom to retain that beautiful spa scent
- Are an absolute pleasure to use
After extensive research into the most gorgeous spa scents around, including personally testing the most recommended and highly rated products, I have come up with several products that stand head and shoulders above the rest.
These are the products that will actually make your bathroom smell like a spa!…
The best all-round product to make your bathroom smell like a spa
I have found one exceptional product guaranteed to create the most gorgeous spa scented aroma in your bathroom.
I have then also sourced an amazing budget option for when we prefer to save our pennies.
The products I’ve chosen are both reed diffusers, because this is the easiest, most stylish, and most long-lasting way to make your bathroom smell like a spa.
The first product, which I will be repurchasing again and again because the smell is HEAVENLY is the Archipelago Botanicals Botanico de Havana Diffuser.
OH MY GOODNESS does this smell amazing!
It also lasts and lasts – many of the reviews I’ve read say up to six months, my personal experience is 4-5 months, but I do use quite a few reeds in it.
So I also think that this product is fantastic value, even though it’s on the pricier side as an initial purchase.
With that said, my choice for a simply amazing smelling lower priced alternative is the wonderful Antica Farmacista Home Ambiance Diffuser in Santorini – to try it is to love it forever!
I would add that I’ve tried other scent options in these ranges, and they’ve also been divine, so you’re safe to test out the other varieties for variations on delicious spa-scented aromas!
I will just briefly mention one other product that stands out above the rest for making your bathroom smell like a spa. It’s my favorite spa scent in the whole world, but this is on the much pricier side, hence only a brief mention before we move on to our DIY options!
The product is the Aromatherapy Associates Deep Relax Bath and Shower Oil – the spa scent from this product is truly amazing and I really can’t recommend it highly enough!
Since you use it in a warm shower or bath, the scent stretches far beyond your bathroom on the sweet smelling steam! And since it’s incredibly concentrated the scent also lasts a really long time on your skin.
You can also place tiny dabs around your bathroom – try on the inside of the toilet roll tube, the corner of a towel or facecloth, and on a cotton pad out of sight.
I think this oil is well worth the investment because it’s so potent and lasts so long, so if you feel like splurging and really treating yourself, I say go for it! But if it’s budget options that you’re after, read on…
Aromatherapy Associates Deep Relax Bath and Shower Oil
An essential budget buy to maintain that spa scent!
There’s no point in treating yourself to an exquisitely spa scented product if you’re going to ruin the gorgeous smell with nasty bathroom pongs!
If you really want your bathroom to smell like a spa, then it’s important to keep nasty niffs at bay as well as create amazing new aromas.
There’s only so much you can do to cover up unpleasant smells, so the best solution is to eliminate them at source!
The one essential product you need to use to stop the usual ‘bathroom smells’ is Poo Pourri Toilet Spray!
This is amazing stuff – to try it is to be converted for life!
This amazing stuff creates a barrier on the water’s surface in the toilet bowl, which traps odors under the surface while also creating a gorgeous new scent.
And it really does work!
I recommend this value pack of three so you can try out different fragrances and find your favorite.
No need to buy a toilet air freshner ever again!
And the ad is kind of hilarious…
Now let’s take a look at some amazing DIY tricks to make your bathroom smell like a spa!
DIY Methods to Make Your Bathroom Smell Like a Spa
There are a couple of particularly good DIY tricks to make your bathroom smell like a spa. The first involves hanging eucalyptus in the shower, and the second is to use essential oils in a variety of clever ways.

Make your bathroom smell like a spa with eucalyptus
For a completely natural way to create a spa scent every time you shower, try hanging fresh eucalyptus.
All you need to do is get hold of around 15 fresh eucalyptus branches (you can get them at florists), preferably the baby blue variety as it has the strongest scent.
Tie the branches together with yarn and hang them at the top of your shower so that they fall between the wall and the shower stream (ie you don’t want them to actually go under the water).
Then simply run a hot shower – the steam will release the fresh eucalyptus aroma, creating a distinctly spa-scented vibe!
As well as the gorgeous scent, the eucalyptus scented steam is amazing for clearing congestion and energising you.
If you want to experiment, try adding branches of rosemary and lavender to your eucalyptus bunch.
Clever ways to use essential oil!
There are several amazing blends of essential oils you can use to create a spa scent – they’re all covered in this post on how to make your whole home smell like a spa, so check that out if you love to blend!
But diffusing your essential oils isn’t the only way to use them for an amazing smell.
One trick that’s particularly good for bathrooms is to combine essential oils with baking soda for a gorgeous scent that also absorbs bad odors.
Remember to check out the safety guidelines for the oils you’re thinking of using – for example some essential oils aren’t recommended during pregnancy or for children or pets.
Just put some baking soda in a small bowl or container (with no lid) and add a few drops of essential oil. Leave it somewhere it’s not going to get knocked over and it’ll act as a simple yet effective deoderizer!
If you just want to get one essential oil then lavender is your best bet for a spa scent. I recommend this bumper bottle, which has the most amazing reviews.
However you can also buy a ready made spa-scented blend – like this divine Complete Bliss Essential Oil Blend by NEOM – or check out those custom blend ideas I mentioned in this post (geranium and clary sage is my personal favorite one).
Another neat way to use essential oils in your bathroom is to saturate a q-tip with the oil, then tape the q-tip to the inside of your toilet roll tube!
Simple, inexpensive, yet surprisingly effective – try it!
And finally, on a similar note, you can just drop your favorite oils onto cotton balls and place them out of sight in your bathroom (obviously out of the way of any little people who might be tempted to stick them in their mouths or eyes!).
You’ll continually get subtle whiffs of scent, and you can just refresh them every week or so to keep the fragrance alive.
And finally, for a really effective way to get an intensive spa scent throughout your bathroom, use a portable atomizer to diffuse your essential oil blend throughout the room.
This one by Aromatherapy Associates is super sleek, sophisticated and generally spa-worthy!
By the way, if you’re getting into essential oil blending you can save a lot of money by investing in an essential oil starter kit instead of buying your oils individually. Just be wary of the very low priced ones as they’re often weak and inauthentic. For a good value set with top quality oils I suggest this brand, they also do sets with diffusers which are worth checking out.
The most authentically spa-scented products for your bathroom!
So just to quickly summarise how to make your bathroom smell like a spa in the quickest and easiest way possible!
My number one recomendation is to invest in the amazing Archipelago Botanicals Botanico de Havana Diffuser and my more budget friendly recommendation is to treat yourself to the gorgeous Antica Farmacista Home Ambiance Diffuser in Santorini.
Reed diffusers like this are quick wins because they really do make your bathroom smell like a spa, they look good, and they’re a quick easy fix – what’s not to love!
